Fear Not

The unknown has always been a difficult thing for me; you can say I have a fear of it. As a Christian this is something that the Lord has been working on in my life. It hasn’t been easy but His Word gives me promises that I need to hold on to and by faith I can trust in the Lord. Being fearful can keep us from doing the things of God, and it brings us into bondage.

Romans 8:15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”

So when I become fearful of the things of the unknown I have a Father that I can cry out to who will come to my rescue and comfort me, and strengthen me. He enables me not to fear the unknown, but to trust in Him with all my heart.

Psalm 27:1-3 The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked came against me to eat up my flesh, my enemies and foes, they stumbled and fell. Though an army may encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war may rise against me, in this I will be confident.

So the Lord is our light, salvation and strength. We don’t have to fear or be afraid of things that we don’t understand because God’s presence provides the inner resources to overcome fear in difficult experiences.

God’s Word gives us reasons not to fear.

  • You are His creation Isaiah 44:2 – Thus says the Lord who made you and formed you from the womb, who will help you: ‘Fear not, O Jacob My servant; and you, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen.
  • You are loved 1John 4:9 – In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.
  • You are more valuable than the sparrows Luke 12:7- But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than the sparrows.

We have seen that we are His creation, we are loved by God because He sent Jesus to die for our sins; we are more valuable than the sparrows. We have these promises from God. There are many more these are just a few from His Word. So in order to hold on to these promises we need to commit ourselves to God in utter dependence upon Him. No longer holding on to our feelings and fears but by faith knowing that God is in control and we don’t have to be afraid.
