Have you ever felt overwhelmed?  I think we’ve all experienced being overwhelmed with work, school, kids, finances, family, ministry or life at some point.  You know that feeling, like you are just barely keeping your head above water.  It’s a terrible feeling and sometimes seems to pop up out of nowhere sometimes.

I recently felt overwhelmed. As I sat there crying over that one final thing that set me over the edge I thought to myself, “What am I doing wrong?”.  I must be missing something. So I started to list: Reading bible? Check! Prayer? Check! Bible Study? Check! Worship? Check!  I was trying to self-diagnose  because there had to be a problem. The symptom was there, I was OVERWHELMED.

Sometimes being overwhelmed can be a sign that you are doing too much, as in being too busy. It can also mean you aren’t doing enough, as in seeking the Lord in His Word, in prayer and in worship.  So if you are feeling overwhelmed take time to ask God, “I’m I doing what you what me to do?” And if the answer is “no” then take steps to make it right.

There are times that God allows us to feel overwhelmed even when we are right where He wants us.  Why? Because He loves us and He wants us to remember to run to Him and cling to Him through good times and difficult times.  If life was easy and smooth as long I did all that was on my checklist I might forget that apart from God I can do nothing.

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5

So if you are feeling overwhelmed, know that you are not alone. You are not alone because God is with you. Abide in Christ. Rely upon Him. Let His love overwhelm you more than this life.
