Do you know how hard that is for a worrier like me? Oh my. It almost comes naturally for me to worry. But, I have definitely been clinging to this verse lately. There have been so many unexpected and uncertain occurrences happening in my life and in the lives of others around me. Continually, I need to remind myself “Not to be anxious”, “ Not to stress”, “ Not to worry” and” Pray more”. Once I finally decide to surrender it to the Lord, then I am able to take that deep breathe and rest in His peace. I find comfort knowing the Lord cares and is there to hear what’s on my heart.
Unfortunately, so many times I find myself in that crazy anxious place again. I repeatedly take up the burden that I had already given to the Lord. At other times, its new situations that arise that cause the worry. Things happen that I can’t control and I sometimes recognize myself getting anxious. Often, I don’t even notice I’m anxious until my body actually physically starts to ache. Once I am aware of what I’m doing I have a choice to make, just like you have a choice to make in your anxious moments. I can choose to stop and recall what the Lord asked me to do or I can try to handle and deal with it on my own. As if the latter is even remotely wise. For some reason, it’s sometimes difficult to let go, but I know I need to choose to do what God wants me to do.
What does He wants me to do? He wants me to pray and surrender it to Him.
He doesn’t want me to be a stress case. He doesn’t want me take a Valium pill thinking that’s the answer. He doesn’t want me to go to a drink for comfort either. He wants me to simply go to Him. God wants us to talk to Him about what’s going on, to be thankful knowing “He’s got this” and then rest in His peace.
We can earnestly seek His help in all situations big or little. You are important to Him. Only Jesus can give us perfect peace because he is the Prince of Peace. Isaiah 26:3 says, “You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.”
God is trustworthy. When we trust in Him, we can surrender it all to Him and stop being anxious. I pray you remember, along with me; to talk with God in prayer, be thankful, then let it go so you can experience Gods wonderful peace that guards our heart and minds through Jesus Christ.
Philippians 4:6-7 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
