Under His Wings

As women we hold many roles in today’s society that define who we are, such as a mother, a wife, a student, an employer, an employee and many more. There are many adjectives in society that are given to women that are good and bad, such as beautiful, plain Jane, thin, ugly, assertive, and many more. One of the roles of modern women is to have it all – to have a career, make a lot of money, wear perfect clothes and have on perfect make-up and hair.

Recently I found myself in this perfect storm of the world’s expectations on women. I lamented on how I was a failure. I was trapped in my thoughts, overwhelmed with negative thoughts of self-worth. Thoughts that I could not get further in my career, my body image was of an ugly being, intellectually – I could never achieve the top of the pinnacle of success in society. The worse thoughts were spiritual- that I could not understand His word, He wasn’t using me in ministry, etc.

My mind was in a battlefield of lies from the enemy, until I read Psalm 61:1-2 “Hear my cry, O God; attend to my prayer. From the end of the earth I will cry to you, When my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.”

This was my answer, to cry out to God. He will hear my prayer wherever I am at, when I am overwhelmed He will lead me to the rock that is higher than I. You see, when I take my thoughts off of ME/I and look to HIM, he will lead me to a higher place.

He lovingly reminded me “I am fearfully and wonderfully made”, “You understand my thoughts afar off” “How precious also are Your thoughts to me O God, Psalm 139.” Psalm 61: 3-4 says “For you have been a shelter for me, a strong tower from the enemy. I will abide in Your tabernacle forever; I will trust in the shelter of Your wings.

We are to abide and trust in Him, to find shelter in Him when we are in the battlefield, whatever they are.
