I remember when I was a teenager I used to listen to the top 100 songs of the year on New Year’s Eve – these thoughts would bring nostalgia and sadness that a whole year is gone. As I got older my thoughts no longer where about the top 100 songs, but of people who went home to be with the Lord, people who left for the missionary field, or people who backslid …
Now I consider Psalm 84:5 which says, "Blessed is the man (woman) whose strength is in You, Whose heart is set on pilgrimage." I am on a journey for home, I need to set my heart on His pilgrimage by pressing toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
I remember Jean McClure said that on this pilgrimage our suitcases can get filled with the pressures of life and become so heavy our pilgrimage gets weighted – but in Philippians 3:13-14 Paul said he forgets those things which are behind and reaches toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus – Our relationship with Christ.
The year 2012 is finished, now I look forward to what the Father has in store for 2013 – I press toward the goal. How do I forget the past and press toward the goal?
Check back next Friday for another devotion by our women’s ministry team. We are calling this series of devotions, “Treasures for a woman’s heart” from Luke 2:19 “But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.” We pray that you are blessed and encouraged by these short devotions.
