Today is the day that we celebrate love. We buy candy, flowers, cards and maybe plan to go to a fancy dinner. It’s pretty much guaranteed that everywhere you go today you will see tons of couples and maybe a little too much PDA. I have to admit I’m not a big Valentines Day celebrator, my husband and I usually do something special during the month of February but just not on Valentines Day (mostly because I don’t like the crowds). Even if you aren’t a fan of the holiday it’s still fun to celebrate those that we love. It’s important to appreciate the people in our lives and sometimes we need the reminder of that.
Beyond all the pink hearts and roses take time today to consider true love. The greatest love, the kind of love that only Jesus can give. 1 John 4:10-11, “In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.”
Jesus laid down His life for us, He proved His love for us by dying on the cross so that we might have forgiveness for our sins and have eternal life with Him. What an amazing gift, it’s sweeter than any chocolate, more costly than any jewelry and more beautiful than any rose could ever be. His Love never fails. Verse 11 says “if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another” as believers we have received the greatest love. God desires that we not only be filled with His love but that we would pour it out on all those around us.
Share God’s love with someone today. Go out of your way to be kind to those that you come in contact with. It’s not easy and our flesh gets in the way many times, but we are blessed when we are obedient to God’s Word.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8, Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails.
